Shawarma Festival 2017

You know what makes the end of a weekend better? Shawarma. On October 15th, Toronto became home to its first ever Shawarma Festival and in case you missed it – it was awesome! Brought together by the team at Gorilla Management, the Shawarma Festival took place in the booming Canary District, situated right by the Distillery District. With plenty of open green space (and parking), the Canary District made this the perfect spot to enjoy the delicious foods brought to us by Middle Eastern cuisine.

One of our favourite shawarma vendors, Johnny’s Shawarma, made an appearance in the downtown core to sell their delicious and flavourful shawarma offerings. At the booth, we were greeted by Johnny himself and his lovely wife, Ani, who were more than willing to make sure our order was made to perfection. Featuring chicken, beef and veggie/vegan falafel wraps, passersby’s were in for the best of the best. After all, with juicy meat, quality fresh ingredients and caring staff, how could one turn away? And of course, for dessert there was baklava and lots of it!

Luckily, Johnny’s Shawarma is available close to home at 1904 Kennedy Road with a larger menu to choose from (including Shawarma Poutine!). With over 20 years in the industry, this is a Middle Eastern joint that will not disappoint, and we promise after first bite you’ll be visiting time and time again.

Overall, while the weather was gloomy that did not stop shawarma lovers from all over the city from attending this festival. There was music playing, shawarma taste tests and eager customers looking to satisfy their cravings with authentic shawarma and falafel wraps. We look forward to seeing another food event take place in the near future!
