National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Remember, Reflect & Support
Posted

Today, September 30, the Kennedy Road BIA joins communities across Toronto and Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
This day honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and Indigenous communities. It is also an opportunity to listen, learn and consider how we can support reconciliation within our own communities.
Ways to Support in and Around Scarborough
Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) – Cedarbrae Office
CCS is holding a non-perishable food drive in support of the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto. Community members can contribute canned goods, pasta, rice and baby formula.
Collection Period: September 29 – October 12, 2026.
Indigenous Legacy Gathering
Community members can also take part in the Indigenous Legacy Gathering at Nathan Phillips Square, taking place September 28–30.
The gathering provides opportunities to learn, reflect and connect through Indigenous teachings, ceremonies, storytelling, music and dance, with programming including sunrise ceremonies and an Indigenous marketplace.
Learning & Supporting Beyond September 30
Reconciliation extends beyond a single day. We encourage our Kennedy Road community to continue learning about Indigenous history, support Indigenous-owned businesses and artists, attend Indigenous-led community events, and explore educational resources available through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and the City of Toronto.
Today we remember. Today we listen. And together, we continue learning.
Every Child Matters. 🧡
