There are moments that remind us a neighbourhood is more than just the businesses that line its streets—it is the people who gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories together.
This past weekend, what should have been another joyful celebration at Salsa on St. Clair was overshadowed by a heartbreaking tragedy that has deeply affected families, attendees, volunteers, vendors, local businesses, and our entire city.
On behalf of our Business Improvement Area, we extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted. Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all those who witnessed or responded to this devastating event.
Community festivals represent the very best of Toronto. They bring neighbours together, celebrate our city’s incredible diversity, support local businesses, and create spaces where families can safely enjoy music, food, art, and culture. Events like Salsa on St. Clair have become an important tradition because they remind us of the strength found in community.
While this tragedy has left many feeling shocked and saddened, we hope it does not diminish the spirit that these events are meant to inspire. Instead, may it strengthen our commitment to supporting one another, looking out for our neighbours, and continuing to build welcoming, vibrant communities across Toronto.
We also want to acknowledge the first responders, emergency personnel, volunteers, and community members who acted quickly to assist those in need. Their professionalism, compassion, and courage during an unimaginable situation exemplify the very best of our city.
As the investigation continues, we encourage everyone to rely on information shared by the appropriate authorities and to be mindful of the families and individuals directly affected during this difficult time.
Toronto’s neighbourhoods have always shown remarkable resilience. Time and again, our communities have come together in moments of hardship to support one another with kindness, compassion, and hope. We believe that same spirit will help carry everyone affected through the days and weeks ahead.
Today, we mourn together. Tomorrow, we continue to stand together.
From all of us at the Kennedy Road Business Improvement Area, our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragic event.
